Team GSG returned to the Spa Life UK Convention at Old Thorns Hotel & Spa in Hampshire to host this year’s Good Spa Guide Awards.

The hot and balmy evening began in Atrium Bar for pre-dinner fizz and much dress admiration. The seated event took place in the Gatsby Ballroom - beautifully dressed in green, blue and gold – and attracted 270 guests from across the spa industry.

After tucking into a delicious starter of king prawn arancini with lobster bisque, comedian Lou Sanders – of LOL: Last One Laughing fame amongst others - took to the stage, entertaining with her quick wit, high energy and prop humour (cucumber water, anyone?).

Lou then announced the eight winning spas, inviting them on stage to receive their much-coveted statuettes. And here they are, your class of 2025…

Best Day Spa
The Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall Village

Ribby Hall is a five-star holiday village with a glamorous spa hotel. The thermal space is stunning: a vast glass structure overlooking the decked spa garden with its outdoor hot tub and sauna. At the centre is the large bubbling hydrotherapy pool surrounded by loungers and seven heat experiences, including a herbal sauna, aroma steam room, tepidarium, sanarium and Balinese salt inhalation room. The spa menu has Elemis, Neom and ishga treatments on offer as well as exclusive signature rituals.

The Woodland Spa

Set within 100 acres of Lancashire countryside with its rolling landscape, the newly expanded (i.e. doubled in size) spa is housed in a separate building to the hotel and has a sense of intimacy and peace. The Thermal Experience Journey includes a range of heat rooms, plus a hydrotherapy pool, outdoor infinity pool and a tranquil Serenity Pool in a low-lit relaxation space. The treatment menu includes face and body therapies from Temple Spa, Medik8 and Neom, with manis/pedis from OPI. The award-winning Restaurant – with its killer views - is located above the spa.

Best City Spa
Thermae Bath Spa

Located in the historic Spa Quarter - close to the sacred site of the Cross Bath and the Roman Baths – Thermae Spa is fed from Hetling Spring. Built on the footprint of the old municipal pool, the square stone and glass building rises up above the old honey-coloured stone buildings in the centre. On the ground floor you'll find the thermal Minerva Bath; the second floor is home to the thermal facilities; head up to the eye-catching rooftop pool to gaze out across the city’s chimney tops to the surrounding hills.

Best Destination Spa, sponsored by ESPA
Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa

Nestled in the heart of the Borrowdale Valley, Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa is hard to beat for lake views. The Falls Spa has 18 luxury spa bedrooms, a pan-Asian restaurant, Champagne bar and a comprehensive thermal suite. Outside, the 16-metre infinity edge vitality pool steals the show - complete with fountains, underwater loungers and an overflow hot tub feature; the views to Derwentwater and the Catbells Mountain Range will leave you speechless - possibly the best selfie location in the Lake District.

Best Spa for Wellness, sponsored by Elemis
Ragdale Hall Spa

The original dedicated spa retreat, Ragdale Hall is a large, comfortable country house set in the Leicestershire countryside. The spa has quite a cult following; you’ll find good quality, well-priced treatments delivered by people who really know their stuff. There is plenty of spa on offer here including six pools - one of which is on the roof - 12 heat and water experiences, and a wide array of temping treatments and daily exercise classes. Gloriously, at Ragdale you can be as pampered or healthy as you like; enjoy a healthy meal or opt for cake and Champagne.

Set in the heart of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the spa draws inspiration from the wild waters, rich in natural salts, and the spring water bubbling from the mountains. The Celtic Thermal Suite includes a choice of sauna and steam rooms, ice room and a hydro-pool.

Best Traditional Spa Experience
Turkish Baths Harrogate

Turkish Baths Harrogate is a masterpiece of Victorian thermal bathing with soaring Islamic arches, vibrant brickwork, arabesque painted ceilings and terrazzo floors. If you can drag your gaze away from the draw-dropping architecture, you'll find a series of three heat rooms from the entry-level frigidarium to the 70ºC laconium – brave the cold plunge pool after the heat. Upgrade your package to include blissful treatments designed by Germaine de Capuccini and Comfort Zone.
