The spa and beauty industry continues to grow and evolve, with new and exciting innovations, retreats and trends every year. Here’s what we can expect to see in 2025…
BRAIN HEALTH
As dementia continues to plight our nation – as well as that of others - brain health will top of our list of priorities this year. Mental health retreats for dealing with trauma, PTSD and pain relief will also squeeze their way into the industry, while venues offering anything from neuro-fitness to psychedelic-assisted feedback will bumble away in the background; the United States leading the charge. At home, lion’s mane remains the shroom de jour for protecting your noggin – take one capsule a day to stimulate the growth of brain cells, reduce anxiety and dampen depression (this particular Spa Spy swears by it).

WOMEN’S HEALTH
This generation of peri-menopausal and menopausal ladies can consider themselves luckier than their mothers as this is one female topic that has never been more out in the open (thank you Davina). The numbers of spas offering menopause treatments and retreats is not only on the rise but set to stay, as the UK garners more knowledge – and does more research - on the subject. Oestrogen gels made of synthetic-free yams are just the start... We will also see a rise in the number of clinics offering advice on period health, hormonal imbalance and infertility.

HYDROTHERAPY CIRCUITS
Cold showers, ice baths, Cryotherapy, wild swimming… last year was all about freezing our bits off; this year, it’s about mixing hot and cold. The benefits of regular sauna use are well documented (read about Stylish Spy’s trip to Tampere, sauna capital of the world) but combining a session in a hot box with cold exposure (rinse; repeat) is the thing for 2025. The use of moist leafy bundles to gently massage and circulate heat around the body whilst sitting in a sauna or steam room is also gaining traction, whether performed on oneself or with the use of a Sauna Master or Steam Master.

SLEEPMAXXING
Still on our radar this year is sleep – the vital brain-re-setter that sees most of struggling to get eight hours a night. Sleepmaxxing, according to TikTok, is doing anything you can to prolong sleep, be it melatonin supplements, no liquids two hours before bed (those night wees really play havoc with dreamtime) or sleeping in a cold room. For those of us who really can’t switch off, spas are investing in sonic devices, meditation chairs and other equipment for spa goers to plug in and get the benefits of a good night’s sleep in a 20-minute cycle. They are also launching new treatments to relax and revitalise the weary spa goer.

NATURAL HIGHS
Elemis has long been at the forefront of the superfood movement, launching its own range of nutrient-packed skincare way back when. This year we can expect to see more superfood-based skincare being used in spas, as well as more natural ingredients such as bee pollen (linked to reduced inflammation), the mighty roar of Lion’s Mane (mentioned above) and magnesium, which supports muscle function, reduces stress and increases energy. We can expect to see more jojoba, olive oil and aloe vera appearing in creams and treatments, too – old favourites that are making a comeback. As we fight to save our beloved planet, organic and sustainable-derived products will remain in vogue.

SKIN FLOODING
What’s a few blemishes when it comes to fighting wrinkles? Absolutely nothing according to TikTok, where advice on skin flooding floods the platform. The ongoing art of laying your skin with hydrating products, the trick is to use layer products onto damp skin in the right order, from thinnest to thickest. An example? Cleanse, serum, mist, serum, mist, serum, moisturiser. The number of rounds of serum/mist applied is up to the individual and, more importantly, what their skin can tolerate. As this is a hydrating treatment, it’s particularly beneficial for dry or menopausal skin. The hero ingredient? Our beloved Hyaluronic acid.
