We reviewed JustBe Soft Lip Balm (£9.40 for 7ml).

First impressions:

The packaging is simple and fresh with a pink leaf print. It clearly shows that it’s made in Scotland in the sweet sounding ‘Rosebank Cottages’. It’s small, pretty and the glass casing makes it feel good quality. The scent is a soft mint infused with a very subtle tea tree oil.

What’s in it:

There’s a sublime mix of six natural ingredients and essential oils: ecosoya wax, coconut solid, jojoba, vitamin E, spearmint oil and tea tree oil. It is suitable for vegans and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved.

Usage:

This is a light balm that is easy to apply, but you do have to rub it into your lips to get a lot of coverage. Once built up it relieved my lips when they have felt rather sore, and protected them well in windy conditions.

It’s also gentle for sensitive lips and has a beautifully refreshing mint scent.

Effects:

Enriched with vitamin E and tea tree the product feels truly nourishing.

The balm promises to moisturise, soothe and protect and I would agree with the latter two. The balm felt waxier than it did moisturising; it did protect my dry lips, but it didn’t feel intensely hydrating.

It is a great everyday product but it didn't provide the moisture recovery I was looking for.

Value:

The balm wins points for responsibly resourced ingredients and local production. I feel it's worth paying a little more for an ethical product. It’s protective, nice to apply and packed with a natural minty punch.

Final verdict:

I think this would suit anyone looking for an everyday lip balm with no nasty surprises in the ingredients. It is a gentle and soothing product for these winter months.

I'll keep my eye out for a deeply moisturising treat that coats my lips with some sparkling shine.
