Sally Phillips 0592

The countdown is on for this year’s Good Spa Guide Awards, sponsored by ESPA, and we are delighted to announce that our presenter for 2024 is actor, writer, comedian, producer and director (phew) Sally Phillips.

Sally is best known for her work in tv sitcoms and comedy shows such as I’m Alan Partridge, Jam and Jerusalem, Miranda and Veep, Taskmaster and QI. Not forgetting Smack the Pony - the ground-breaking female-led sketch show that Sally developed and co-wrote, winning many awards along the way, among them two international Emmys.

Her most recent television credits include Channel 4’s Big Mood, starring alongside Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, Disney/Hulu’s Queenie and BBC’s We Might Regret This, all of which drop this year.

Even more excitingly – for the die-hard Bridget fans at GSG HQ - after appearing as Bridget’s irrepressible BFF Shazzer in the Bridget Jones trilogy, Sally is set to return in the fourth instalment Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy – which is currently in production. While Mr Darcy is no more (sob), rumour has it One Day heartthrob Leo Woodall will play the toy boy love interest of ‘our Bridge’ (Renee Zellweger).

Whilst getting to know Sally, we learnt that she has three neuro-divergent children, one of whom (Olly) has both Down syndrome and Autism; he is fast becoming a self-advocate for people with Downs. In 2016, Sally and Olly made a documentary entitled A World Without Down's Syndrome? with Director Clare Richards for (BBC2), exploring our national screening policy's ethical implications. It won the Radio Times Readers Award and Sanford St Martin award for the Best Single Documentary.

With everything going on, Sally doesn’t have much time to visit a spa but is excited about the awards:

“Hurrah! I am hosting the 'Good Spa Awards’ on Monday and not the 'Good Spar Awards’ as I previously thought. Nothing against the Spar - I like shopping there - but a whole Spar Weekend is probably too much.”

We can’t wait... can you?
