Hoar Cross Hall recently re-opened its doors after a whopping £14 million upgrade; Stylish Spy speaks to the team behind the revamp

Please tell our readers why they should visit Hoar Cross Hall?

Once a Stately home, Hoar Cross Hall is a grand property set in 43 acres of Staffordshire countryside – it’s a truly peaceful space to visit. We have 97 beautiful bedrooms – all different in size, shape and style - making no two visits the same. We also have three restaurants (one with an AA Rosette, pictured below), tennis courts, bikes to pedal about on, woods to explore and a 85,000sq metre spa. We’ve also just completed a £14million upgrade.

Yes, a little birdie told us about that – so what’s the flutter?

All bedrooms have been given an overhaul – some now have hot tubs bubbling away on terraces; others baby pink freestanding baths in the middle of the room. Some of the smaller rooms have also been made bigger. Brand new for 2021 is the Royal Suite Experience where four guests can stay in a grand suite with a hot tub on the deck and their very own butler. Our popular lunch spot, Henry’s (pictured below), is unrecognisable, too, with a brand-new look and a fresher, lighter menu that works around the seasons.

What’s the spa like?

As spas go, ours is vast with a saltwater vitality pool, hydro-pool, sensory showers, cold plunge pool, Nordic Heat & Ice Suite (we recommend you try the lavender-infused aromatherapy room), five slumber/relaxation areas – including a dark room with heated water beds and hanging pods – 41 treatments rooms, a gym, two fitness studios and a hair salon.

At 85,000sq ft, the spa can accommodate 308 guests at any one time without feeling crowded. We also run 90 classes a week - from yoga and Pilates to spinning. The dedicated spa restaurant, Hugo’s, serves a range of light bites and heartier dishes, as well as sweet plates and a choice of wines.

That’s quite the spa - did it also receive some love during the upgrade?

Of course. We redeveloped the spa boutique and the relaxation areas, enhanced the spa entrance and upgraded the merchandising space to ensure it felt connected to the rest of the spa. The pre-treatment area was also remodelled. VOYA treatments will join the menu in December, with a signature VOYA seaweed bath on the horizon.

So can you now sit back and relax?

Not at all - we are always evolving. Sustainability is next for the property, trying to find better ways to work whilst helping the planet. In the spa, we still have some updates to complete in the thermal area and the fitness studios; a brand new medi/pedi area will also open soon. Planning permission is also going through for a courtyard spa with some outside pool area, which will be ideal on a summer’s day.

Stylish Spy loved:

Her room: a spacious suite with herringbone floors, wood panelling in deep shades of grey-blue, incredible garden views and that much-talked about pink roll top bath.

The food: from the cooked-to-order breakfasts and ‘give-everything-a-try’ buffet lunches to the incredible dinners (we tucked into perfectly-cooked scallops, chicken with Gnocci and a cheeseboard complete with Staffordshire blue), the food at Hoar Cross Hall is something to shout about.

The spa: At a whopping 85,000sq ft, and with 90 classes per week, 85 spa therapists, 41 treatment rooms and has five spaces to relax - as well as a host of thermal experiences and new treatments to try - the spa at Hoar Cross Hall is a now real contender.
