Hidden beneath the streets of York, SubRosa has opened within the historic vaults at The Grand, York following a £2.8million refurbishment. Facilities include a double Morroccan hammam - offering traditional Morroccan-inspired treatments by MarocMaroc - a Tirol hot sauna, a Himalayan salt sauna, a salt and light therapy room, herbal steam room, herbal lounge, large hydrotherapy pool and foot spas.
Latin for ‘under the rose’ SubRosa’s five treatment rooms will offer rituals inspired by global experiences. It's the only spa in the North of England to offer SeaBody marine bio-tech treatments. Finish your visit with a light meal at the SubRosa restaurant, featuring Asian-inspired dishes.

Our menu moves to its own rhythm, offering vibrant small plates, for those who like to share their indulgence, and larger dishes for a solo treat, designed to leave you feeling balanced, nourished, and grounded. Hidden deep within the hotel’s vaults, SubRosa invites you to nourish from within.
The Grand, York is a luxurious five-star hotel set in an elegant Edwardian building originally constructed in 1906 as the North Eastern Railway Company headquarters. The hotel offers 207 spacious and stylish guestrooms and suites, each blending historic character with contemporary comfort, from Classic and Executive rooms to larger family-friendly options and individually styled Heritage Suites.
Rooms feature air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, luxurious bathrooms, Egyptian cotton linens and thoughtful modern touches, with many offering views over York’s ancient city walls or toward York Minster. The suite collection includes Heritage, Grand Heritage and the opulent Penthouse Suite, which provide enhanced space, comfort and premium inclusions such as guaranteed spa access and late check-out.

Valet parking is available for overnight guests from £39.50 per night (subject to availability).
There are a limited number of valet parking spaces offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Alternatively, there is an NCP car park on Tanner Row just a minute’s walk from the hotel that guests can use, often with a discounted rate available via the hotel concierge.
The spa’s facilities have step-free access throughout, including accessible pool entry and a pool hoist available on request, as well as changing facilities designed for comfort and privacy. Treatment beds are adjustable for ease of access.
