It's not often you get the Spies voluntarily visiting a building site. Nevertheless, some of us popped round the corner last night to Brighton's flagship hotel, The Grand.

The hotel has started a multi-million pound overhaul of all its bedrooms and meeting areas. It's also launching a new restaurant, Caught at The Grand, with a menu based on locally sourced seafood.

What we were particularly interested in, though, were the plans for a well-being spa to replace the existing leisure facilities. The new spa will have a steam room, sauna, seven treatment rooms and a nail bar.

The Grand's General Manager, Andrew Mosley, said: "The team here at The Grand are really excited about the forthcoming renovations. We have listened to our customers over the past few years and have responded with these exciting improvements to our existing facilities as well as the addition of more meeting space and the spa."

Here at The Good Spa Guide, we're delighted to see a new addition to the local spa scene and look forward to watching how the building makes progress. The spa is due to open in early 2013. We hear it's going to be an Espa spa, but we'll keep you posted on what other brands and treats The Grand has in store for us as we find out more.

Warm floors when you put your bare feet upon them; heated treatment beds; soft towels; attention to detail, so that your treatment room looks and smells beautiful when you arrive in it.

Spy Dislikes:

Cold floors when you put your bare feet upon them; therapists who use your treatment time to write up a list of product "recommendations" that they hope you will purchase.
