First Impressions

Aqua Sana Spa is in the Centre Parcs holiday village in the heart of Woburn Forest. Manicured trees line the well sign-posted path to the spa building, an attractive blend of glass and timber near the tennis courts, with its own car park.

The beauty of the forest is brought inside the spa via leaf sculptures, plants and nature-inspired wallpaper. In the spa reception area, large windows flood the area with light.

On offer

What's on offer?

The reception team gave us a warm welcome and a wristband for our locker, and talked us through our itinerary for the day. The spa assistant then handed us a robe and towel.

The changing rooms are spacious and modern, with stone-effect tiled flooring and wooden-panel-fronted lockers. The space is separated into four areas so you never feel over-exposed. At the centre of each area is a large brown leather stool by which to change; this is surrounded by lockers. The private changing cubicle, vanity stations and toilets are at one end; at the other is a line of showers, each stocked with Aqua Sana shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Our lovely spa host, Diane, met us outside the World of Spa and took us through to the Vitalé Café for a welcome drink and snack. Afterwards, Diane gave us a much-needed tour of the spa and suggested a route for us to take.

There are six individually designed spa areas at Aqua Sana Woburn Forest, each taking you on a different sensory journey, namely Fire and Ice, Blossom, Herbal, Sensory, Mineral and Gemstone, and Salt Spa. Each journey includes a selection of saunassteam rooms, showers and sensory experience rooms, with individual signs giving you advice on how to make the most of each experience. The Blossom, Herbal and Fire and Ice spa are upstairs; down the spiral staircase are the Sensory, Mineral and Gemstone, and Salt Spas. Between each experience are hydration stations, comfortable seating, and indoor plants.

We began our spa day in the space-age reflexology foot spa, with its self-filling system and alternating colourful lights, before moving onto the heat experiences. Starting with the delightfully-scented blossom spa, we worked our way up to one of our favourite areas: Fire and Ice. The super-hot lava-volcano sauna has images of red-hot lava bubbling from a volcano on the walls; cool down in the snow or ice room or head outside to the balcony and breathe in the forest air.

We loved the Salt Spa on the lower level, too, with its comfortable salt-inhalation lounge and huge steam room. The Sensory Spa was another highlight; we could have spent all day in the sensory experience room which takes you on an audio-visual journey through the seasons in warm surroundings. If you are someone who struggles to switch off, start your spa journey here.

The highlight of our visit was the outdoor hydrotherapy pool which overlooks the forest. Let the hydrotherapy jets and swan-neck fountains ease muscle tension while you sit and listen to birdsong.

We tried the Décleor Aromatherapy Melt Dry Floatation (55 minutes, £59).

My therapist, Nicola, met me in the pre-treatment relaxation room and took me through to a treatment room with a waterbed in the centre. Nicola talked me through the treatment before inviting me to lie face-down on the waterbed.

The treatment began with a stimulating foot wash followed by some gentle body brushing to stimulate blood flow and remove any dead skin cells. Nicola then massaged a Décleor aromatherapy melt into my skin, a thick body butter with a light and refreshing orange scent. I turned over so that she could repeat this on my front.

Nicola wrapped my entire body in cotton sheets, placing a blanket on top so that I could remain warm while the body butter nourished my skin. One touch of a button, and the entire bed began to lower into the water, an odd yet relaxing sensation which made me feel like I was floating despite being dry.

Nicola placed a lavender eye pillow over my eyes and left the room, returning to check on me five minutes later. When the bed began to rise, I felt completely weightless and utterly blissed out.

After being unwrapped, I took a quick shower to get rid of any residue and lay back on the bed. Nicola applied a delicately-scented floral body milk so that I smelled like a summer garden. Nicola showed me through to a candle-lit relaxation room, made me a cup of tea and gave me my post-treatment card. To say that I felt relaxed was an understatement; my skin felt incredibly soft, too. This treatment would be perfect for anyone who struggles to switch off.

Aqua Sana Woburn Forest offers everything from massages and rejuvenating facials, to sculpting wraps and nourishing scrubs. Also on the menu is reflexologytreatments for men and mums-to-be, and beauty finishing touches such as manicures, pedicures and brow treatments.

Food Facts

If you visit for a spa day, you eat lunch in the light and airy Vitalé Café which overlooks the forest. Remain in your robe and choose from a selection of sharing platters, and hot and cold dishes from a wonderful display at the front of the café. Our gluten-free chicken and avocado flatbread was light, fresh and delicious, and went perfectly with a glass of bubbles.

The little treats: From face masks in the morning to platters of fruit in the afternoon, our day was full of surprises.

We didn't love

We visited during the week so the spa was fairly quiet but it does get pretty busy at weekends.

Public Opinion

This spa is...

What others are saying

"Severely overcrowded when we went. Pool partially closed for tiling work with no warning when we booked- we had to dart across decking in the rain to get to a lukewarm infinity pool overlooking a road- overall impression was not exactly relaxing or "luxury". One spa patron was on his laptop with sound blasting while we were in one lounge area, saunas smelt (not of essential oils either!). Really disappointed, ended up complaining and getting a full refund. Would not recommend at all!"

"I absolutely love it here! I visit once every couple of months and never get bored. It's probably one of my favourite spa's just because of the sheer number of different rooms. I agree the pool is slightly too cool. Its fine if you are swimming but this is only possible on a quiet day as there is not much space and it can get busy. There is and has always been a private changing area in the changing rooms but it could have been missed as it is tucked away in the corner on the right hand side when you enter the room. Fresh towels are available in two locations and if you need a fresh robe you can get one easily by asking one of the many helpful spa assistants dotted around the area. I also love the fact that iced towels, infused water and fresh green apples are available to grab anytime you need a refresh or you get a bit peckish. "

"I visited this spa with my boyfriend a week or so ago and was surprised by the number of rooms and experiences on offer. I found the water in the pool quite cool when outside, but I don't agree it was uncomfortable at all. If it was a few degrees warmer it would have been perfect. Overall we were very happy with our experience. We found the comfy outside seats very pleasant, especially looking out at the forest. I found the whole spa to be spotlessly clean. We booked a full day ticket and went at around 3, we didn't manage to go into every experience room as we were just taking our time and there were so many to enjoy. A couple of things I think could've been better, one was having to walk all the way down to the spa entrance to get another robe. I found mine got increasingly damp during the day and it would have been nice to have another robe more readily available, especially when you're there for the whole day. Also one of the mineral spas had no treatment balm outside, we looked but couldn't see any so skipped that room. Saying this, I would definately recommend this spa. "
