We reviewed Dr. Hauschka Soothing Cleansing Milk (£25.50 for 145ml).

First impressions:

Post-summer, my skin has been screaming for some TLC. Since it was such a long summer (wasn’t it wonderful?) my skin was feeling really grumpy.

The Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Milk comes in a simple box with clear, clinical symbolism, so I didn't expect it to be anything special.

What’s in it:

The cleansing milk comes in a simple glass bottle. Milk isn't quite the right word to describe the texture, it is more of a cleansing cream. As I opened the bottle, a wonderful, fresh aroma reminded me of tea tree, cucumber and lemon.

Ingredients include: water (aqua), anthyllis vulneraria extract, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, bentonite, lecithin, xanthan gum, fragrance (parfum), limonene*, geraniol*, linalool*, citronellol

Dr. Hauschka products contain no synthetic fragrances, dyes or preservatives. They have not been tested on animals, either.

Usage:

Following the instructions, I splashed my face with warm water and applied two or three pumps to my wet face, neck and décolleté. The skincare product swished smoothly over my skin, and washed off easily with cool water. Afterwards, my skin felt distinctly toned and the fabulous smell hung around for a while. The soothing cleansing milk removes dirt and is a great eye make up remover.

Effects:

Wow! Amazingly, for me, the redness on my neck and upper chest vanished instantly. This is the first skincare product I have ever used that could do this for my skin condition! Over the testing period my skin has gradually felt less dry, and rather soft.

The instructions suggest this cleanser can also be helpful for shaving when you have sensitive skin, so I tried it. It certainly seems to reduce the sore patches I sometimes get after hair removal.

Value:

For me, this product is an asset and worth the price tag. It is value for money because it is a multi-purpose formulation: I can use it as a daily cleanser, to soothe my skin, as well as shaving.

Final verdict:

I loved it! Reducing redness and having something I can rely on to undo the worst of my daily skin challenges is really useful.

I’m also planning to take it with me when I travel, to combat some of the effects of sun, heat and dehydration on my poor, long-suffering skin. I'll be trying the other dr. hauschka skin care products, including the dr. hauschka facial toner.
